Working on a construction site means you must wear personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
Who must provide and pay for PPE?
Your employer is responsible for providing the PPE required to perform your work. Under the collective agreements, your employer must pay you an hourly allowance to cover the cost of your safety boots as well as your hard hat and its accessories. Check the CCQ wage rates page to see the amount provided.
For all other equipment, your employer must provide it free of charge. You are required to wear it, use it properly and maintain it. If the equipment is damaged, broken or defective, you must report it to a responsible person.
PPE adapted to women’s sizes and fit
You have the right to PPE that fits your size. For example, safety harnesses are available in models specifically designed for women’s body shapes.
